Recently, an eye-catching case occurred in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. A 60-year-old man was questioned by the police for casually tossing away a cigarette, ultimately revealing a fraud case involving a large amount of Crypto Assets.
The man was stopped by the police while trying to take a taxi in the Gwanak District of Seoul. When questioned by the police, he appeared unusually nervous, refused to show identification, and attempted to evade further investigation through bribery. However, his unusual behavior aroused the suspicion of the police, ultimately leading to his arrest.
After a thorough investigation, the police discovered that the man was actually a fugitive suspect in a long-standing fraud case. It is reported that he carried out a large-scale Crypto Assets fraud scheme between 2018 and 2019, involving an amount as high as 17.7 billion Korean Won (approximately 12.6 million US dollars), with over 1,300 victims.
The man has been on the run since 2020, and after his arrest, he has been handed over to the Southern District Prosecutor's Office in Seoul. He currently faces 10 charges, including assaulting a police officer and fraud.
This case has once again raised people's concerns about the security of Crypto Assets. With the rapid development of the Crypto Assets market, related criminal activities are also becoming increasingly rampant. Regulatory authorities urge investors to remain vigilant and carefully identify potential scam risks when participating in Crypto Assets transactions. At the same time, law enforcement agencies are continuously strengthening their efforts to combat such crimes in order to maintain financial order and protect investors' interests.
The resolution of this case not only highlights the police's keen insight but also proves once again that even seemingly trivial illegal activities can become key clues in uncovering major cases.
